Restoration Event at the Black Country Living Museum
On the 22nd May 2024 Cast Iron Welding Services hosted its professional development and learning event at the Black Country Living Museum.
Representatives from the heritage industry were invited to attend the event to enhance their understanding and skills in the restoration and protection of cast iron structures and architecture.
It was a packed programme of events that included a guided tour of the award-winning Black Country Living Museum. This open-air museum, celebrated for its exceptional attention to historical accuracy and ongoing development, offered an inspirational backdrop to the day’s learning activities. The museum showcases the famous cast iron houses, and attendees were able to walk inside the houses and experience life in the 1940s and 1960s, living in a metal house.
The tour included a walk around the replica dockyard where Peaky Blinders was filmed…
Guests were treated to educational workshops and informative presentations from members of the Cast Iron Welding Services team focussing on the History of Cast Iron, the Restoration of Cast Iron, Protection and Maintenance, and Environmental Considerations. Participants gained insights into the critical phases of inspecting and assessing cast iron structures, as well as the intricate processes involved in their restoration and protection.
The day was a great success and a valuable networking opportunity for all, with the highlight being a traditional 1930s recipe fish and chip lunch!
